What does postpartum mean?

Postpartum, also known as the puerperium or the fourth trimester, is a phase with varying definitions. While some sources define it as the time between childbirth and the return of female reproductive organs to their non-pregnant state (typically around six weeks), others adhere to the tradition of 40 days after giving birth.

However, when considering the emotional, psychological, spiritual, and physical aspects, the process of healing can extend well beyond these timelines. In real life, recovery time is individual, chronologically variable, and may take days, weeks, or even years.

Recognizing this diversity, I embrace a holistic approach to empower you in your new role as a mother or parent, tailored to your unique needs.

Why do families choose a postpartum doula?

Families look for postpartum support at different moments.

Some reach out during pregnancy because they already know they'll be parenting far from family, have a partner returning to work soon, or simply want to begin this new chapter with someone they trust already by their side. Others contact me after their baby is born, when feeding feels harder than expected, recovery is taking longer, or they realise they could use an extra pair of experienced hands.

Whatever brings you here, the reason is rarely that you need someone to care for your baby instead of you. More often, it's because you want a trusted source of support while you learn to care for your baby yourself.

A postpartum doula provides continuity during a period that often feels full of questions. Rather than searching through conflicting advice or wondering whether what you're experiencing is normal, you have someone who gets to know your family over time, understands your goals, and helps you make sense of what you're seeing.

As we care for your baby, prepare a meal, work through a feeding challenge, or make space for you to rest, we're also building something less visible but equally important: your understanding of your baby, your confidence as a parent, and your ability to make decisions that feel right for your family.

What to expect?
  • Emotional support and a space where you feel heard.

  • Breastfeeding and infant feeding support.

  • Newborn care and understanding your baby's cues.

  • Guidance on normal infant development and behaviour.

  • Support with your recovery after birth.

  • Meal preparation and light household tasks.

  • Babywearing and soothing techniques.

  • Support for partners and older siblings as they adjust to their new role.

  • Evidence-based information to help you navigate the many decisions that come with early parenthood.

  • Referrals to trusted professionals whenever additional support would be beneficial.

Every family is different, so every visit is different too. Some visits are very practical, and others are mostly conversations. Many are a mixture of both.

Some days we'll focus on breastfeeding or bottle feeding. Other days it may be newborn care, your physical recovery, meal preparation, emotional wellbeing, sleep, or simply creating space for you (and your partner) to shower, rest, or take a breath while I care for your baby.

With me, you receive everything a postpartum doula usually offers, and something more. I bring clinical knowledge, emotional presence, and the ability to care and teach at the same time, helping you understand what's happening without overwhelming you. Together, we'll make sense of the information around you, answer the questions that arise, and find approaches that feel right for your family.

My goal is to make today a little easier while helping you build the knowledge and confidence to navigate tomorrow with greater independence.

The Road to Postpartum Doula Support

01. 1. Free consultation

We'll begin with a conversation about your family, your expectations, and the kind of support you're looking for. I'll answer your questions and help you decide which option best fits your needs.

02. Choose your support

Once you decide to move forward, you'll receive your agreement and payment information. Depending on where you are in your journey, we'll either prepare for the postpartum period before birth or schedule your first postpartum visit after your baby arrives.

03. Your support begins

From your first visit onward, my care adapts to your family's needs. Between visits, you'll also have access to the support included in your package. An extra prenatal visit might be required to ensure a smooth transition before the postpartum phase, in case our connection began early in your pregnancy.

04. Growing into parenthood

As the weeks go by, the care's focus changes with you. What you need in the first days is rarely what you need six weeks later. Together, we'll adjust it as your confidence grows, helping you feel more rested, informed, and supported while finding your own rhythm as a family.

Beatriz helped me in my postpartum journey through video calls. When I was still pregnant, she helped me preparing to the postpartum period with a plan. During the first couple of weeks I had problems with brestfeeding and she showed me how to massage gently my breast and gave a lot of useful tips about breastfeeding, but mostly calmed me and gave me confidence. Besides that we discussed about safe co-sleeping, soothing techniques for colic baby, self-care, dealing with family expectations and I could honestly share my feelings about this hard but exceptional period of my life. She was really kind, empathetic, supportive and always ready to help.
